“52teenagers combine aggression with finesse, and darkened introspection with tender poetry.”
 - David Sue, Manchester Evening News

“The next really great Mancunian band.” - Liam Frost

The talent of this band is not to be underestimated: instrumentally, vocally and lyrically, 52teenagers are the match of many signed and successful bands.”  - MusicOMH.com Unsigned Guide

After much waiting in the wings, the Manchester-based and bedroom-run Science Fiction Theatre Records are proud to announce that Mancunian rock four-piece 52teenagers will release their debut single ‘3am’ on 2 October 2006. Initially created for the sole purpose of releasing a debut single from 52teenagers, Science Fiction Theatre Records has established itself as the hottest new label in town over the last few months, following releases by The VCs and The Headlines. The time has now arrived for Neil, Gav, Dev and Mark – collectively known as 52teenagers - to take centre stage with their brand new single.

One of Manchester’s most innovative and spectacular rock bands, 52teenagers have been compared to American acts such as Foo Fighters and Jimmy Eat World by their local press; but all the time continue to rock in a truly unique and Mancunian way. Incorporating the fallout of Britpop into their sound and performance and taking onboard a rich array of influences, from Muse to Radiohead to Elbow. Neil’s emotive lyrics and angelic vitriol make him an irresistible force, providing a lavish forefront for Mark’s mind-blowing backdrop of shimmering guitar soundscapes. Gav brings the rock with his awesome powerhouse drumming, whilst Dev’s devastating basslines and harmonies complete the pulsating rhythm section.

Their melancholic melodies and varied song dynamics have seen the band rise to prominence during the last year. Highly regarded in their hometown, the band can be found giving Manchester indie kids something a little heavier to chew on, from rocking Blowout at the Bierkeller and on to bigger venues like Manchester Academy 3, where they have headlined sold-out shows. They are now making a splash across the North and the nation’s capital; including various London venues such as Dublin Castle, The Purple Turtle and a hat-trick of gigs at The Water Rats, including two Club Fandango exploits.

Equally as comfortable playing quiet as loud, in 2005 the band sold out a limited 500-copy run of an acoustic EP, with all proceeds from it’s sale given to the Asian tsunami relief charity, Dive Aid. This has been followed by two live acoustic sets on BBC GMR during the last 12-months. Radio support has continued more recently with XFM Manchester’s Clint Boon championing ‘3am’ on Music:Response’s Unsigned section. Also, this summer the band has found admirers in the form of Ash’s Mark Hamilton and fellow Manchester musicians Jim Noir and Liam Frost.

Available as a 7” or download only, ‘3am’ will be backed with the darkest and most devilish song yet recorded by the band: ‘Safe Sex’. As well as this very limited edition 7”, the single will be available on-line backed with be a special download only track, ‘The Bigger Pictures’ (available for free to those who buy the 7”.)
